The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's fourth and current Chairman,
Y Bhg.Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie, was appointed Chairman of the Malaysian Communications
and Multimedia Commission on 1 April 2006.
The powers and functions of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission
are as provided under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Malaysia Act, 1998.
The members of the Commission are :
Datuk Dr. Halim Shafie
Datuk Dr. Halim was appointed as Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on 1 April 2006.
Dr. Halim obtained a Bachelor of Economic (Hons.) from the University of Malaya (1972), Masters in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh, USA (1980) and a Doctorate in Information Transfer from Syracuse University, USA (1988). He also attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School, USA, in 2000.
Dr. Halim has held several positions in the Government sector, including serving as Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Education. He served as Program Coordinator for the National Computer Training Center at the National Institute Public Administration, and as Director of the Information Technology Division of the Malaysian Administration Modernisation and Management Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Dr Halim went on to serve as the Director of the National Institute of Public Administration before being appointed Deputy Secretary-General to the Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia, in 1999. He was subsequently appointed as Secretary General to the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications, from November 2000 till March 2006 immediately prior to his current position as Chairman of the MCMC.
Dr. Halim is married with five children.
Dato' Dr. Halim Man
Dato' Dr. Halim Man is currently the Secretary General at the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications. He has held numerous positions in the Malaysian civil service and holds a doctorate in Human Resource from the University of Birmingham, England and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
Dato' Dr. Halim Man joined the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on 1 st September 2005.
Dato' Dr Gan Khuan Poh
Dato' Dr Gan Khuan Poh has more than 30 years of experience in civil service, and the last position held in the public service was at the Economic Planning Unit at the Prime Minister's Department as Senior Director responsible for Macroeconomics and Economic Planning. He was also the Chief Economist responsible in the formulating the long-term Development and Five-year Plans for Malaysia.
Dato’ Gan joined the Pilecon Group of Companies in 1997 as an Executive Director responsible for group finance and corporate planning and later as its Managing Director until end 2000. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of a few companies as well President of the Malaysian Economics Association. His current research interests are in macroeconomics, corporate economics and the economics of regulation.
Dato' Gan joined the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on 1 April 2002.
Datuk C. Rajandram
Datuk Rajandram is the Executive Deputy Chairman of Rating Agency Malaysia (RAM), an independent credit rating agency. Prior to this, he was an Adviser with Bank Negara Malaysia. He was also the Secretary of the Capital Issues Committee CIC before his secondment to the Ministry of Finance as Director of the Monitoring of Government Companies and Agencies Unit. At the Capital Issues Committee, he headed the Task Force to formulate the draft of the Securities Industries Act governing the general environment of capital market development. He was chiefly instrumental in carrying out the amendments to the Securities Industry Act to further refine the market environment in 1993.
Datuk Rajandram is a Fellow of Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, a Member of the Association of Certified Public Accountant (Malaysia) and a Fellow of the Institute of Banks Malaysia.

Mohamed Sharil b. Mohamed Tarmizi
Mohamed Sharil b. Mohamed Tarmizi is an Executive Director of BinaFikir, an advisory and consulting firm covering the areas of policy, strategy, corporate finance advisory and Islamic structured finance services.
Mr. Sharil is also a representative of the government in ICANN as the Chairman of the Government Advisory Committee (GAC).
His immediate past position was as the Senior Advisor in the Office of the Chairman in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Mr. Sharil became a member of the commission on 1 May 2006.
Dato' Abdul Hanan bin Alang Endut
Dato' Abdul Hanan bin Alang Endut is the Secretary General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Prior to this, he served in various other government departments in senior positions, including that of the State Secretary for Perak and Director of the Ministry of Finance's Budget Department.
Dato' Abdul Hanan has attended Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Programme and holds an MBA in International Finance from Syracuse University and a Bachelor in Economics with Honours in Applied Economics from University Malaya.

Encik Idris bin Abdullah
Encik Idris bin Abdullah has been appointed as a non-Government representative of the Commission. The appointment took effect on 26 May 2008.
Encik Idris Abdullah holds a First Class LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya, and began his career in 1981 as a resident lawyer at Ting and Company Advocates in Sibu, Sarawak. Between 1982 to 1985, he served as an in-house Legal Advisor to a group of companies based in Sarawak with diverse interests in property development, timber extraction and processing, leisure and hospitality business, and wholesale and general retail trading.
Currently, Encik Idris Abdullah is a Senior Partner of Idris and Company Advocates. He is also an advisor to several companies based in Sarawak which are engaged in the building and construction, motor trading, recreational club, and educational institution sectors.
