Data Information represented in a manner suitable for automatic processing. ITU 153. Data communication, Data transmission (deprecated in this sense) A form of telecommunication intended for the transfer of information between data processing equipments. ITU 154. Data Processing Device Any article or device from which information is capable of being reproduced, with or without the aid of any other article or device CMA 155. Data transmission The conveying of data from one place to another by telecommunication. Note – The term “data transmission” is deprecated in the sense of “data communication”. ITU 156. DCA The Department of Civil Aviation, that is the regulatory body for the air transport industry REG-R 002 157. Declaration A declaration made by the Minister under section 13 CMA 158. DEL (Main Telephone Lines in Operation) The number of telephone lines connecting the subscriber’s terminal equipment to the public switched network and which have a dedicated port in the telephone exchange equipment. This term is synonymous with the term main station or Direct Exchange Line (DEL), which are commonly used in telecommunications documents ITU (Telephone Network) 159. Demultiplexing, A process applied to a composite signal formed by multiplexing, for recovering the original independent signals, or groups of these signals. Note – Demultiplexing may be partial, for instance for extracting a group from a supergroup of telephone channels. ITU 160. Density of Population The density of population is calculated by dividing the population by the land area in sq km ITU (Demographic, Economy) 161. Designated Rate A transmission rate at 2.048 Megabits per second, 4.096 Megabits per second, 6.144 Megabits per second, 34 to 45 Megabits per second, or 140/155 Megabits per second ALD (CP) 162. Designated Skill Area A skill area designated by the Commission under regulation 26 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000 TSR   163. Detached Building Have the same meaning provided in the Uniform Building Bylaws 1984, and shall mean any building not attached to any other building REG-T 007 164. Determination A determination made by the Minister under section 10, or by the Commission under section 55 CMA 165. Developer Have the same meaning as ‘housing developer” provided in the Housing Developers (Control And Licensing) Acts 1996 and shall mean any person, body of persons, company, firm or society (by whatever name described), who or which engages in or carries or undertakes or causes to be undertaking housing development REG-T 007 166. Dial Tone Delay (Start Dial Signal Delay) Time interval between off-hook and reception of start dial signal. REG-Q 002 167. Direction A direction issued by the Minister under section 7, or by the Commission under section 51 CMA 168. Director Has the meaning given to it in the Companies Act 1965 CMA 169. Director General The Director of General of Telecommunications in Malaysia as established by the Act; The Director General of Telecommunications in Malaysia as stipulated in the Telecommunications ACT 1950; The office of Director General of Telecommunications in Malaysia as established by the Act; The office of the Director General of Telecommunications in Malaysia and/or his successor(s) as established by the Telecommunications Act 1950. Directory Assistance Service    An applications service enabling a person, by dialing a code or number, to obtain the telephone number of a customer which is sought by such person through operator assistance or automatic means LR 171. Directory Service An applications service enabling a person to obtain the telephone number and limited information about a customer which is sought by such person and includes a directory assistance service, published directory service or online directory service LR 172. Disaster Plan A disaster plan which may be developed in accordance with section 267 CMA 173. Distribution link A link for the transmission of sound or television broadcasting programmes to the users, generally from a programme production centre, when no further post-production processing is intended. ITU 174. Domain Name The textual address of an object on the Internet. It corresponds directly or indirectly to the actual numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address REG-T 008 175. Domestic Fixed Operator Operator who has been licensed to provide telecommunications service under the telecommunications Act 1950 as amended, in accordance with which it may offer fixed telecommunications network service. Domestic Fixed Wireless Operator Operator who has been licensed to provide telecommunications services under the Telecommunications Act 1950 as amended, in accordance with which it may offer fixed telecommunications network service REG-R 003 GFWLL 177. Double Tandem Origination Applies when the A party is in a different Closed Number Area from the POI at which the call is handed over to the equal access carrier selected by the customer. This payment category will only be used for equal access call origination (equal access fixed: long distance and outgoing international) TRD 006 178. Double Tandem Termination Charge Applies when the B party is in a different Closed Number Area from the POI at which the call is presented for termination, unless the local cal termination charge applies. Duplex, full duplex (deprecated); Designating or pertaining to a mode of operation by which information can be transmitted in both directions simultaneously between two points.
