No Terms Definition Source
196. Facility Network facilities and/or other facilities which facilitate the supply of network services or application services, including content applications services. ALD (CP)
197. Facsimile A form of telecommunication for the reproduction at a distance of graphic documents in the form of other graphic documents geometrically similar to the original. ITU
198. First Coaxial/HFC Termination Point The first interface device at the end of a line connecting the customer to the network provider's telecommunications network enabling the supply of telecommunications service and/or for the transmission of other services to the customer. REG - T 007
199. Fixed Line Traffic Volume of traffic carried over the Public Switched Telephone Network. Calls refer to the actual number of completed calls. Minutes refer to the number of minutes of use. ITU (Fixed Line Traffic)
200. Fixed Link And Cable A network facility to enable communication between two stations, channels or adjacent nodes of a network and is part of a communications system. LR
201. Fixed Service A radiocommuncations service between specified fixed points. SR
202. Fixed Station A station which is located in a specified location and is intended to be used in that specified location. SR
203. Fixed-Satellite Service A radiocommuncations service between earth stations at a given position, and when one or more satellites are used, the given position may be a specified fixed point or any fixed point within a specified area and includes a satellite to satellite links which may also be operated in the inter-satellite service and feeder links for other space services. SR
204. Fixed-Satellite Station A space station in the fixed-satellite service. SR
205. Framework Regulatory rules on the sharing of Infrastructure. REG - R 002
206. Free Phone A service which permits the cost of the call to be charged to the called party, rather than the calling party. ITU (Fixed Line Traffic)
207. Frequency band A continuous set of frequencies lying between two specified limiting frequencies.
Note

-

A frequency band is characterized by two values, which define its position in the frequency spectrum, for example, its lower and upper limiting frequencies.
ITU
208. Frequency Band A continuous frequency range of spectrum. CMA
209. Frequency bandwidth The quantitative difference between the limiting frequencies of a frequency band.
Note 1

-

The term "bandwidth" is usually associated with a qualification, for example:
- baseband bandwidth;
- necessary bandwidth;
- bandwidth of an amplifier or other device.
Note 2

-

A bandwidth is defined by a single value and does not depend upon the position of the band in the frequency spectrum.
ITU
210. Frequency channel Part of the frequency spectrum intended to be used for a transmission of signals and which may be defined by two specified limits, or by its centre frequency and the associated bandwidth, or by any equivalent indication.
Note 1

-

A frequency channel may be time-shared in order to allow communication in both directions by simplex operation.
Note 2

-

The use of the term "channel" to mean "telecommunication circuit" is deprecated.
Note 3

-

The term "radio-frequency channel" used in radiocommunication is defined in CCIR Recommendation 573.
ITU
211. Frequency departure An unintentional frequency separation from a stated frequency. ITU
212. Frequency division A technique whereby a separate distinct frequency band is used for each transmission channel, for example in multiplexing, switching or multiple access operations. ITU
213. Frequency drift An undesired progressive and slow change in frequency with time. ITU
214. Frequency offset A small intentional frequency change for purposes other than that of modulation.
Note

-

A frequency offset may be affected, for example, as a means of avoiding or minimizing interference.
ITU
215. Frequency shift An intentional frequency change produced by modulation, or an unintentional change due to a natural phenomenon. ITU
