Licences under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Does the service I intend to provide require a licence?
 
i) Please take a look at Table 1 to see if your proposed services is listed there.
ii) if it is not or if you are still unclear and need further assistance, send your enquiry with details of the service that you intend to provide to this email address : webmaster@cmc.gov.my
   
2. How do I apply?
  To apply for an Individual Licence, click here.
To register under a Class Licence, click here.
   
3. How much do I need to pay for a licence?
 
i) For an Individual Licence the appicable licence fees are as follows:

a) Application Fee - RM10,000.00 (non refundable)
b) Approval Fee - RM50,000.00
c) Annual Fee - 0.5% of Gross Annual Turnover or RM50,000 - whichever is higher
   
ii) For registration under a Class Licence a fee of RM2,500.00 is payable for a One-year registration.

4. Who are the current licensed service providers?
  The list of licensed facilities or service providers is available under the respective registers for each licence. If you wish to view the list, please click on the relevant register :-

5. How do I apply for a licence to operate a radio or television broadcasting station?
  To operate a radio or television broadcasting station, you will need a Content Applications Service Provider Individual Licence.

However, there is a Ministerial Direction on the General Licensing Policies dated 23 March 2001 which states that the Minister, for the time being, will not grant any new CASP (I)

6. Renewal of Class Licence registration?
  The Communications and Multimedia (Licensing) Regulations 2000 (Amended 2001) does not provide for the renewal of a Class Licence Registration.

Instead, prior to the expiry of a current class registration, class licensees are advised to submit a new application for registration.

Applicants are advised to submit the new application for registration at least 30 days prior to the expiry of the current registration to ensure continuity of the registration.
   
7. What are the services that are exempted from the requirements of a licence?
