CYBERJAYA, 1 November 2019 --- The analogue TV transmission closure was successful with the full switchover in Sabah and Sarawak at 12.30 am involving 42 analogue TV broadcast stations covering both states (16 in Sabah and 26 in Sarawak).

A simple ceremony to mark the switch-off of the analogue TV transmission and transition to the myFreeview digital TV transmission was held at Bukit Trig, Sandakan in Sabah and Bukit Lima, Sibu in Sarawak.

In Sabah, the ceremony was witnessed by the state Minister of Education and Innovation Datuk Dr. Yusuf Yacob, General Manager for TM Malaysia Sabah Dato’ Hj. Mohd Sainal bin Mohd Amin and representatives from MCMC, MYTV and RTM. Meanwhile in Sarawak, Personal Assistant to Sibu Member of Parliament Ethan Ting Xin Chen as well as representatives from MCMC and MYTV attended the ceremony.

The analogue TV transmission switch-off in Sabah and Sarawak last night was a historical event for the nation as it gears towards digitalisation in broadcasting, marking the end of the analogue TV transmission era in Malaysia, which was offered free-of-charge since 1963. Various efforts such as announcing the transition through Public Service Announcements, talk shows on TV and radio, flyers distribution at public places, housing areas and internet centres, local newspapers, social media platforms; as well as engagement with State Governments and information on the transition displayed on TV screens have been carried out by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and MYTV to ensure the readiness of residents in Sabah and Sarawak for the transition.

To ensure a smooth transition process, MCMC together with MYTV will continue to be present at the relevant locations and monitor the development from time to time. Attention is also given to efforts in solving issues faced by the users to ensure all Malaysians are able to enjoy high quality myFreeview digital TV transmission.

The myFreeview digital TV transmission provides sharper images, high quality sound and interactive TV services that will spur future economic, social and educational needs of the country and its people. Viewers can also enjoy a myriad of TV channels, radio and new applications such as online shopping, interactive learning and more via 14 TV channels and six (6) radio channels including TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, TV Al Hijrah, Astro Go Shop and Bernama News Channel (BNC).

The public would be able to benefit from the new applications to increase their income, readying themselves to face the ever-evolving digital age. For artists in the creative industry, they would be able to produce more content for viewers in Malaysia.

For those who have yet to transition to the myFreeview digital TV platform, you are encouraged to do so by:

a) Installing a Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) decoder to an existing TV set, together with a UHF (Ultra High Frequency) antenna - external (recommended) or internal UHF antenna.
b) Connecting the UHF antenna to an integrated digital TV (IDTV) with a DTTV label that is equipped with a decoder, or
c) Installing a DTH decoder and satellite dish to your existing TV set if you reside within a remote area.
