ABOUT DSRG
The DSRG was launched on 3 July 2020 to grow broader evidence-based research studies with a shorter time frame bearing current data. The value of each grant is limited to a maximum of Malaysian Ringgit ten thousand (RM10,000) for research activities no longer than six (6) months unless stated otherwise.
This grant aims to grow the evidence base necessary for the nation to optimise the advancements made in communications infrastructure and service deployment. This base will assist the development of policy, programmes, and interventions to promote the inclusion and participation of all population segments as the nation transitions towards being a fully digitally connected and informed society.
The Research Sponsor for the DSRG is the relevant internal unit within MCMC that has formally requested the research. As the primary beneficiary, the Research Sponsor is responsible for identifying the research need and will directly utilise the findings to inform policy, programme development, or regulatory decision-making.
ABOUT DSRGX
The DSRGX is an extension of the Digital Society Research Grant (DSRG), specifically designed to address industry-specific gaps and foster collaboration among industry players and stakeholders. Launched to complement the DSRG, the DSRGX aims to generate evidence-based research that is directly applicable to the communications and multimedia industry. Each grant is valued at up to Malaysian Ringgit ten thousand (RM10,000) for research activities lasting no longer than six (6) months.
The primary objective of the DSRGX is to support the development of policies, programmes, and interventions that promote digital inclusion, enhance industry knowledge, and drive collective progress. By focusing on industry-specific challenges and opportunities, the DSRGX aims to benefit all industry players and stakeholders, fostering a more informed and resilient digital society. The grant encourages the open sharing of research findings to ensure mutual benefit and collaboration throughout the industry.
The Research Sponsor for DSRGX is a licensed entity under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) that has formally requested the research. As the primary beneficiary, the Industry Research Sponsor identifies specific industry challenges or knowledge gaps and commissions research to generate actionable insights. These findings are intended to support strategic decision-making, policy development, service innovation, or operational improvements within the Communications and Multimedia (C&M) sector.
FOCUS AREA
The DSRG and DSGRX seek GUIDED research projects to clarify regulatory and developmental gaps and inform actionable outcomes in the following categories (subject to CFP requirement):
- Digital Citizenship and Cyberwellness (DCC): Clarifying gap areas influencing participation, positive uptake, and wellness in an increasingly digitally dependent world.
- Digital Inclusion (DI): Clarifying regulatory and developmental gaps related to factors that impede equality of access and challenge the paradigm of ensuring that no one is left behind or deprived of digital connectivity and its benefits.
- Future of Work (FW): Clarifying gap areas related to work transformations and the evolving skills needed due to digitalisation, technological advances and changing workforce expectations, and develop strategies to equip individuals and organisations for success.
- Sustainability & Environment, Social, and Governance (SESG): Clarifying gap areas impacting the environmental footprint of technology, social and ethical factors, sustainable business practices, and initiatives in the communications and multimedia (C&M) industry and supporting national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
