Call for Collaboration for 5G Malaysia Demonstration Projects

INTRODUCTION

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is issuing a Call for Collaboration (CFC) to invite interested Applicants to submit proposals for 5G Malaysia Demonstration Projects.
 
The 5G Malaysia Demonstration Project aims to facilitate, build and nurture development of potential use cases of 5G in a live but controlled environment, and in a broader context, grow the 5G ecosystem in Malaysia.
 
This Call for Collaboration seeks to enable interested parties to:
  1. Collaborate, develop, test and deploy proposed 5G use cases across identified industry vertical; and
  2. Identify, create, measure and validate conditions necessary for efficient deployment of identified use cases including potential business model, policy & regulatory impediments and recommendations.
 
The proposal from the Applicant shall include the trial deployment of a 5G network, the provision of the 5G equipment and the use of the 5G technology (where possible) to address the stated requirements of the identified verticals and use cases.
The proposal shall fulfil the following criteria:
  1. Have end to end ecosystem partners including technology vendors, solution providers and targeted end users in order to demonstrate and deploy the proposed 5G use case meaningfully;
  2. Have the necessary resources, expertise and funding to support the 5G Malaysia Demonstration Project. All cost associated and relating to the 5G Malaysia Demonstration Project shall be borne by the participating parties.
  3. Propose a feasible business model to sustain deployment of the use case on a wider scale in Malaysia at the end of the 5G Malaysia Demonstration Project; and
  4. Lead and managed by persons with relevant experience, credibility and integrity.
 
The industry verticals/areas identified by this CFC are as below:
  1. Agriculture;
  2. Smart Transport;
  3. Education;
  4. Entertainment / Media;
  5. Digital Healthcare;
  6. Manufacturing & Process Industries;
  7. Smart City; and
  8. Special Project for People with Disabilities*
 The Applicant may propose location(s) beyond Cyberjaya and Putrajaya that is suitable for the demonstration project.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The Applicant must possess valid Network Facility Provider and Network Service Provider licence.

 

SUBMISSION

Interested parties are invited to submit their proposal to Secretariat of 5G Test Bed by completing the form provided and emailing it to [email protected] together with the necessary documents by 15 July 2019.

All proposals shall be subject to approval by the MCMC.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

For the purpose of the 5G Demonstration Project, the Applicant(s) may apply for use of identified 5G spectrum through existing process. MCMC however is under no obligation to award the spectrum to the applicants beyond the demonstration project period. Kindly refer to the MCMC document “Guidelines for Trial, Experimental & Demonstration Systems”.
