MCMC Issues Compounds of RM660,000 to Service Providers

30 May 2016

CYBERJAYA, 30 May 2016 --- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued five compounds amounting to RM60,000 to three service provider companies, two Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) and one broadcaster for non-compliance with the Mandatory Standard on quality of service.

For this, one compound amounting RM20,000 was issued to Celcom Axiata Berhad, whilst one compound each amounting to RM10,000 was issued to Red One Network Sdn Bhd, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Merchantrade Asia Sdn Bhd and Husa Network Sdn Bhd respectively.

Concurrently, 12 compounds amounting to RM 600,000.00 were issued due to non-compliance with the Guidelines On Registration of End-Users of Prepaid Public Cellular Services, namely failure to verify end-user’s information during the registration of the prepaid sim card. Two compounds were issued to Maxis Mobile Services Sdn Bhd totalling RM 100,000.00, five compounds to DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd totaling RM 250,000.00 and five compounds to Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd totaling RM 250,000.00; with each compound amounting to RM 50,000.00.

The MCMC regulatory exercise now focuses on quality of service and prepaid sim card registration. As such, the MCMC takes seriously offences involving prepaid sim card registration and will take stringent action, including prosecution, on service providers and dealers who failed to comply with the Standard Mandatory requirements and the MCMC Guidelines to ensure that consumers’ rights and interest are protected.
