100 Registered Post Agents At PP1M Centres By 2020 - Jailani

CYBERJAYA, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Pos Malaysia and telecommunication companies will create 100 registered post agents at selected 1Malaysia Internet Centres (PI1M) nationwide in stages by 2020.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the pilot project for registered post agents would be implemented in eight PI1M centres, five in Sabah and three in Sarawak by next month.

The PI1M locations involved are Kampung Pandan (Lundu), Niah Suai (Miri), Kampung Jepak (Bintulu) in Sarawak and Pekan Kinabatangan, Pekan Bingkor Laut (Keningau), Kampung Rampayan Laut (Kota Belud), Sungai Kayu and Batu Sepi (Sandakan) in Sabah, he said.

Jailani was speaking at the MCMC Strategic Collaboration for registered post agents project ceremony here today.

Registered post agents will offer products and services such as sale of envelopes and stamps, prepaid boxes of Pos Laju and Pos Ekspress, service before delivery call (ODP), Pos Laju (walk-in), Flexipack (domestic) and Registered Post.

Jailani said that registered post agents service that comes with broadband internet facilities could empower the rural population and B40 groups in e-commerce.

"I believe the registered post agents project will be a catalyst for change to the public as they will enjoy the benefits of high speed internet services and IT facilities," he said.

The initiative was also an effort to spur postal and courier industry in the country, especially the Postal Transformation Plan for Sabah and Sarawak (PTPSS).

Jailani also suggested Pos Malaysia to provide special prepaid PI1M package with attractive rates to help the rural population to market their products at home and abroad.

"Through this special packages, I'm sure we can promote the PI1M role as rural community centres more effectively," he said.

Pos Malaysia group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said Pos Malaysia will launch a special prepaid PI1M packs to promote e-commerce activities in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the special pack of 1kg would be sold in two forms - blue pack (RM16.96) for the post delivery between Sabah and Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia and the red pack (RM10.50) for delivery between Sabah and Sarawak.
