4G broadband should be made affordable to consumers – CFM

KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) hopes that rural areas are not left out in the development and roll-out of the 4G Service.

Its Chairman, Mahfuzah Azahari in urging the service providers to roll out the 4G service as soon as possible, said higher speed of the mobile internet should also be made affordable and available to all Malaysians.

“Service Providers should consider a larger scale of economy and a nationwide roll-out.

“The CFM also strongly urges the service providers to look at the bigger picture by not overlooking consumer affordability which will directly result in high dissatisfaction among them,” she added.

In a statement yesterday, she urged the service providers to develop value added products that would be mutually beneficial for their business and consumers.

“The CFM believes long term initiatives to build digital literacy through continued engagement will spur continued growth for the industry.

“More Malaysians are on the lookout for information online and ready for an improved service in content delivery,” Mahfuzah said.

She said the CFM also applauded the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for allocating the 2600 MHz spectrum band.

“This allocation allows service providers to further improve the internet speed on mobile phones for the consumer.

“It is also important for consumers to make more of an effort to fully understand the broadband packages offered and pay attention to details such as actual charges and not subscribe for more than what they actually need,” she added.

The CFM is a one-stop centre for communications and multimedia consumers and established by the MCMC in 2001.
