KAJANG: The Sessions Court here fined a 23-year-old man RM1,800 for putting up an illegal sticker advertisement.

Tan Peng Chye was found guilty of posting moneylending stickers in Section 16, Bandar Baru Bangi, on Sept 28.

He pleaded guilty to putting up the advertisement without a permit.

Council corporate planning director Shariman Mohd Nor said Tan was caught by enforcement officers who were patrolling in the area while he was putting up the advertisement.

"We hope this will serve as a deterrent to stem the rampant display of illegal advertisements, which are not only an eyesore but also deface the road signs.

"We will continue monitoring the area for the illegal advertisements, especially along main roads in Kajang town, Bangi, Semenyih and Cheras, and in residential areas."

He added that the council is also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to have the phone numbers of companies that have put up such illegal advertisements blacklisted.
