KKMM, MCMC, MTFSB To Host 11th Itu Symposium On ICT, Environment And Climate Change

PUTRAJAYA, April 19 (Bernama) -- The Communications and Multimedia Ministry together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Sdn Bhd (MTFSB) will be hosting the 11th International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Symposium on ICT, Environment and Climate Change in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (April 21).

According to a statement from the MCMC, the symposium would be held in conjunction with the ITU Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Study Group 5's Environment and Climate Change meeting, scheduled from April 20 to 27.

It said the objective of the symposium was to raise awareness on the potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to address environmental challenges and encourage stakeholders to integrate existing and emerging ICT-based solutions into their activities for an overall smarter and more holistically sustainable future for mankind.

Among the participants at the symposium include specialists in ICT, environment and climate change who will discuss issues related to green ICT, environment, electromagnetic field (EMF) and electromagnetic disturbance.

The symposium will feature four sessions and focus on Electromagnetic Fields and the Role of Standards and Policies in EMF Management; Damage Prevention and Safety; Results of World Radio Telecommunication Conference (WRC) in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals; and Achieving Environmental Sustainability Goals.

Among the speakers at the symposium are Team Leader for Radiation Programme from World Health Organization (WHO) Emilie van Deventer, MCMC's Chief Officer of Communications, Digital Services and Standards Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus and Project Officer of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Domenica Carriero.

MCMC said the symposium would be launched by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
