Malaysian Content Industry To Make Inroads At Cannes

CANNES (France), Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's content industry players and talents are expected to make new inroads into the global market through MIPCOM 2013, that started today in this French Riviera seaside resort city.

Led by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, over 50 Malaysian companies have set up their booths at the 132 square meter Malaysian Pavilion within the famous Palais de Festivals grounds.

MIPCOM 2013 in one of the biggest fair for international entertainment content across all platforms. Apart from match-making sessions and sales negotiations with hundreds of foreign buyers, sellers and producers also have the opportunity to learn about future market trends and latest technology at various scheduled talks and forums.

Shabery who is here for a three-day working visit will provide a helping hand in promoting Malaysia's talents, and its world-class technology and content.

He started his endeavour early today with a meeting with the Mayor of Cannes, Bernard Brochan. He is to visit the MIPCOM booths accompanied by Paul Barbaro, the sales manager for the organiser Reed Midem International, and Raja Rozaimie Raja Dalnish Shah the Director General for the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) and representatives of other related Malaysian agencies.

According to the itinerary issued by Finas, Shabery will also be interviewed by several magazines and later will have a dialogue with his Singaporean counterpart Yaakub Ibrahim at the Malaysian Pavilion in the afternoon.

In the evening he will open the Creative Malaysia Networking Reception at The Majestic Hotel with the hundreds of foreign guests shown promotional video on investment and production incentives given to the industry in Malaysia.

He will also witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding relating to sales and co-production before attending the official MIPCOM 2013 Networking Reception at a nearby hotel later this evening.

FINAS in an earlier statement said that Malaysia is expected to announce deals worth over RM130 million at this year's MIPCOM, including sales of contents produced by Malaysia's talents across all platforms, investments and joint productions with foreign companies.

In the evening the minister will be attending a dinner meeting with Malaysian students here.
