04 Aug 2014, New Straits Times

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with Media Prima Digital and key partners TIME dotCom Bhd and Microsoft Malaysia will be hosting the D3 (define, design, develop) workshop on August 23 and 24.

The D3 is open to all who are interested in developing digital applications with the aim of integrating real life in the categories of entertainment and lifestyle, and help contribute to a connected community.

“Our aim is to bridge the digital gap between the rural and urban communities. We are looking for tech enthusiasts who would like to make an impact and ‘give back” to the community by building apps that enhance the lives of people in rural communities.

“We will pick the most inspiring ideas, turn them into working solutions and implement them in our community broadband project,” said MCMC chief industry development officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah.

“For the entertainment and lifestyle category, we are looking for innovative apps that would make an impact in the realm of digital media and entertainment industry. We are constantly crowdsourcing for fresh and groundbreaking ideas. Creativity and tech skills can be combined to create a new experience in media”.

“This is an excellent opportunity for participants to be part of the young and fast-growing dimension of the media industry. Your ideas might just be picked to be integrated into our content,” said Media Prima Digital group general manager Lam Swee Kim.

Participants will stand a chance to take home prizes worth more than RM60,000, which includes bursaries from MCMC. They have the option to develop Windows, Android or iOS apps.

The D3 will be hosted at WakaLab, located at Media Prima Digital’s headquarters in Bangsar. For more information and to register, log on to mdd.mcmc.gov.my.
