08 Mar 2013, New Straits Times

PORT DICKSON: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is instructed to look into internet postings of sensitive information on Lahad Datu operation by bloggers.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said bloggers should verify any information they received before posting it online.

"People should not take things easily as the situation there is very serious.

"Wait for verification and confirmation from authorised sources such as the security forces in charge over there.

"People should not randomly post anything that is not confirmed online as it would create panic," said Muhyiddin after launching the state-level 'Strengthening the English Language Literacy & Proficiency' programme at SK Kg Baru Sirusa Port Dickson here today.

Muhyiddin said bloggers who did so can be called in by MCMC to verify who is their source and the credibility of the information.

He was commenting on action by some bloggers and public on social media who posted sensitive, unconfirmed materials on possible attacks by intruders from the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultanate to some new areas in Sabah.
