MCMC Expands 'Smart Community' Project To Every District Nationwide
30 Nov 2015, bernama
ALOR GAJAH, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will expand its "Smart Community" programme to every district in every state nationwide by 2020.
Its Coordination and Digital Community Programme Division head Nor Akmar Shah Minan said the pilot project had already started in Kemaman, Terengganu.
"At present, we are starting the project in Sabah and Sarawak and targeting Melaka by the end of next year," she told reporters after the MCMC Awareness Programme launch in Masjid Tanah, which was officiated by Ayer Limau assemblyman Datuk Amirudin Yusof.
She said the effort was to create a smart community that practised a digital lifestyle and used information and communication technology (ICT) application.
MCMC would also create an entrepreneurship programme, online learning and services to improve the lives of communities across the country, she said.
She said, in cooperation with local telecommunication companies, MCMC would enhance the ICT infrastructure and level nationwide, including expanding high speed broadband services.
