CYBERJAYA (Sept 5, 2013): Malaysia will be the first in Asia-Pacific to host Developers' Day, giving creative individuals and entrepreneurs an opportunity to build innovative mobile apps and kickstart new businesses.

The event this weekend, officially titled Malaysia's Developers' Day (MDD) 2013, is jointly organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and AT&T.

MDD 2013 is an intensive 24-hour challenge that provides the tools, knowledge, and expert participants needed to form teams, generate ideas and efficiently build apps within the time frame.

MCMC chief industry development officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah said 275 individuals have signed up for the event.

"We are delighted with the enthusiastic response to our first MDD 2013 event. Their enthusiasm is a clear testament that the future is bright for the app industry.

"Our participants are given a unique opportunity to work through the collaboration of MCMC and AT&T, hence capitalising on the power of mobile technology to transform their creative ideas into business successes," he said in a press conference today.

Mohd Ali said there is plenty of room for development when it comes to mobile apps and through the MDD2013, winners will be able to present their ideas at an international level.

AT&T international and external regulatory affairs executive director Jake Jennings said MCMC has done a good job working with the local and global companies to bring in investments related to content development and application.

"We have a long history with Malaysia and we have seen that the government has taken extraordinary steps to open its market to encourage investment by creating policies and certainties so that when companies risk their capital, they have an opportunity to have a fair rate of return on that capital," said Jennings.
