KUALA LUMPUR: Telecommunication service providers (telcos) must be responsible over the services rendered to its customers.

Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said his ministry was taking proactive measures to curb incidences of call failures, including the subject of dropped calls.

"We are taking steps to make telecommunication companies responsible over their flaws and we will soon publish particulars on all call failure occurrence, including dropped calls experienced by the public," he told the New Straits Times yesterday.

He said the task force set up by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), with representatives from five telecommunication companies, would help resolve the problem.

Rais also urged the public to lodge complaints over the quality of the services to MCMC.

"Their feedback is vital as the people will be our barometer in deciding the telcos' quality and efficiency in deciding their key performance indicator rating."
