Report Complaints Directly To Authorities, Not On Social Media - MCMC

27 May 2015, bernama
KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- Social media users should report any misconduct or issues of concern to the authorities, rather than just complaining about it online.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)'s Enforcement and Monitoring Division chief Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin said the act of voicing an issue in the social media would only cause it to go viral, but it did not necessarily solve the problem.

"When we see something which isn't right on social media, we should not 'share' it, so that it doesn't become viral. Instead, we should report directly to the authorities," he told Bernama when met at the 2015 Asia Media Summit (AMS) here, today.

Malaysia played host to the 12th AMS, with the theme "Transforming Broadcasting in the Social Media Era '.

The three-day conference which began yesterday, was attended by 500 media practitioners from around the world.
