Take steps to stop lies spread by RFS, MCMC told

MIRI: Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been urged to restrict the frequency of Radio Free Sarawak (RFS) which has been discrediting the government. Making this call, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat said the radio channel, broadcasted in the Iban language, was introduced by the opposition party to condemn the government ahead of the 13th general election. “We urge related agencies to take immediate action to stop Radio Free Sarawak from spreading lies by restricting its radio frequency,” he said yesterday. According to him, the government needed to take immediate action against RFS because it had been spreading false information with elements of sedition and defamation to rural voters. “This is part of their strategy to fish for votes,” he pointed out. To stop the radio channel from making any impact on rural areas he reminded the rural community, especially Ibans, to ignore it. “If the opposition come to your longhouses to tell you about the radio channel, just reject them to prove you are loyal to the government,” he added. He said this when handing over T-shirts to more than 30 community chiefs and longhouse chiefs in Lambir at his office yesterday.
