KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 15 -- High-resolution quality, simple and more savings. This was the reaction given by most people in Terengganu who enjoyed the transition from analogue broadcasts to myFreeview digital TV broadcast which midnight last night.

Zulkifli Harun, 51, said he received the free myFreeview digital TV decoder two years ago and since then, has enjoyed more TV channels with advanced broadcast quality.

“Prior to this, the broadcasting here was often interrupted until I had to purchase a better antenna and I needed to shift the position of the antenna to get a clearer broadcast.

“Now, with the new myFreeview digital TV, the issue of broadcast disruption has never occurred yet and we are grateful that we are enjoying it at zero cost and sharper transmission quality, on par with the paid TV broadcasts,” he told Bernama here today.

Effective midnight yesterday, the analogue broadcast to the country’s northern and eastern regions, covering Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Penang, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu was shut off and replaced with the digital broadcast.

The transition from analogue TV to myFreeview digital TV was done in stages with the analogue switch off for the central and southern regions on Sept 30. For Sabah and Sarawak, the transition will be done on Oct 31.

Mohamad Nur Hidayat Fauzi, 27, said he was fortunate because he had just purchased a new television that comes with a built-in-digital tuner which does not require a separate decoder to receive myFreeview services.

“So, automatically, I will enjoy the better quality broadcasts without needing to buy a new decoder separately.

“Even before that, I have never subscribed to paid television because I wanted to wait for the free digital TV broadcasts provided by the government,” he said, adding that he wants to increase his knowledge through various documentary TV programmes.

With myFreeview digital TV, viewers can enjoy a myriad of TV channels, radio and new applications like online shopping and interactive learning, including TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, Al Hijrah TV and Bernama News Channel (BNC).
