INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT) TRANSFORMING BUSINESSES
 
CYBERJAYA, 23 May 2017 --- Malaysia can leverage on communication facilities, technology partners and private sector readiness in order to push forward the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) in the area of Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN).
 
MCMC Chief Officer for Communications and Digital Ecosystem Sector, Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah Yunus said, Malaysia is currently driving forward in implementing IoT and LPWAN technology that can play a bigger role in various sectors such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, agriculture, digital lifestyle and other sectors hence bringing business value and enhance society lifestyle.
 
He said, the LPWAN technologies were designed for machine-to-machine (M2M) and IoT environments and has several advantages such as requires less power, has longer and wider range of coverage and lower cost.
 
“LPWAN will be the technology of choice for more Internet of Things (IoT) in Malaysia due to its tendency of operating within a wide area,” Dato’ Ali said at the opening ceremony of the Digital Lifestyle – IoT transforming Business seminar held at the MCMC old headquarter, in Cyberjaya.
 
Dato’ Ali expressed hope that the seminar will open up the opportunity, collaboration and understanding of technologies to apply in various areas for the industries and lifestyle.
 
The one day seminar organised by the MCMC and supported by industry partners, brought together the IoT experts sharing their best practices and use cases on LPWAN such as LoraWan, Sigfox and NB-IoT.
 
Participants also visited the myMaker IoT Lab and DLM Experiential Learning Spaces showcasing various IoT ecosystems and maker initiative.
