BERNAMA, MCMC to Serve as Platform to Provide Information about Functions of PEDi

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) - The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) further enhanced their existing cooperation and realtionship by setting up a platform to disseminate information to the people through the Digital Economic Centre (PEDi).

Bernama's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roslan Ariffin said Bernama will assist by initiating a special programme related to PEDi so that people can understand the functions and role of the centre, especially about successful digital entrepeneurs who have succeeded in marketing their products online.

"Bernama is a platform to disseminate information to the community while MCMC is the activator for development and advocator for the purpose," he said after welcoming Federal Territories MCMC director Alyas Roy Amir to Wisma Bernama, today.

Roslan said Bernama will also be a platform for MCMC to disseminate information about online scams that is on the rise.

"Online scams have resulted in losses amounting to millions or rather billions of ringgit to Malaysians every year and we will try to educate and ensure the Rakyat of Malaysia understand the tactics used by scammers so that people will be alert and not fall for the tricks used by scammers,"he said.

Meanwhile, Alyas Roy said the close cooperation between the two agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD), can initiate programmes that advocate and offer clarity to avoid people from falling victims to online scams as well as upgrade their economic status through digital economy, 

He added that there are 911 PEDi throughout the country with 27 PEDi located in the Federal Territories comprising 21 in Kuala Lumpur, four in Putrajaya and two in Labuan.
