JOHOR BARU: There is a limit when it comes to criticism, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this is especially so when it comes to the 3Rs of race, religion, and royalty and warned that action would be taken against those that play up such issues.
“Do not go overboard. Do not let anyone make an issue about race and religion or I will take decisive action. You can stir up what you want, you can talk about anything and you can criticise anyone, but criticism has a limit when it comes to the 3Rs," said Anwar.
“You use sentiment to the Malays against the Chinese. You are inciting people, using religion to declare that we are all infidels. Let me made it very clear here, I will not tolerate it,” he added.
Anwar said this in his speech during the mega Madani unity ceramah held at the Taman Uda Utama recreational park here on Sunday (Sept 3) night.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said he is patient and is not bothered by the constant criticism being thrown at him by those in the Opposition.
Anwar then added that if anyone touched the Rulers, they would have to bear the consequences of their actions.
"I want to tell you that if you criticise me, I can be patient. You criticize the Sultans, that is your fate," said Anwar.
"I said repeatedly a few months ago that I do not agree that the Sedition Act should be applied to anyone who criticises the Prime Minister. If it is defamation, we will take legal action for defamation," he added.
Anwar then said that the Sedition Act will not be used for any criticism of the Prime Minister.
"If you touch the rulers, you touch the Sultan of Kedah, the Sultan of Selangor and the Sultan of Johor, I already told you, I do not want to interfere. Let the police do their job, let the Attorney General's Chambers do their job and let the judge uphold the law," he said.
