KUANTAN: A communications tower in Kg. Gasak Chini, Pekan, has been damaged due to vandalism, causing service interruptions in the area.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the damage involved electronic equipment, which could not be reused and had to be replaced with new stock, subject to availability.
"As a result of the damage, telecommunication services have experienced 4G coverage interruptions considering the tower in Kg Gasak is a collector tower and Multi-Operator Core Network.
"The coverage interruptions also affects eight other towers which are networked through this tower,"said MCMC in a statement.
The eight locations also affected were Pekan Chini, Chini, Kg Gemapai, Ramo Chini 3, Felda Chini Timur 1, Felda Chini 5. Chini Plantation and Chini Timur 2.
MCMC said repair works would take time as the damage to the tower was quite significant.
"Because of limited bandwidth, only a few towers are expected to be restored for temporary service, latest by Saturday, Aug 19,"said MCMC.
