SUBANG JAYA: Six hundred illegal advertisement banners and bunting were removed in SS15 Subang Jaya yesterday morning. Thirty-one officers from the Subang Jaya Municipal Council and police got the job done in three hours. Subang Jaya district commercial crime chief DSP Ng Thean Leng said most items removed were stickers put up by illegal moneylenders. "We will submit the phone numbers on the Ah Long stickers to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)for the numbers to be terminated," he said. He said under Section 5 (1) of the Moneylenders Act 1951, those illegally advertising their services can be fined up to RM1million or face a jail term of five years or both if found guilty. MPSJ's management services department assistant director Salmi Mat Saad said the council removed 60,000 illegal advertisements last year. "We will operate every week and residents are free to keep us informed on the appearance of fresh posters via our hotline number 03-56376545," he said. Salmi said those caught in the act of putting up illegal bunting can be fined up to RM2,000 under the council's advertisement and vandalism bylaws.
