Commission urged to nab the Facebook provocateur

11 Sep 2012, The Borneo Post

MIRI: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) should investigate a recent provocative posting on Facebook as it could cause disunity.

Political secretary to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Sebastian Ting said the use of derogatory terms on Sarawakians was provocative and could cause dissatisfaction among the people.

“Doesn’t matter where we are from … we are all Malaysians. The most important thing is that there is no difference among us, and we must discard all these perceived differences as it would make us part with our unity,” he said when met by The Borneo Post during a Hari Raya gathering organised by the Malay Community Leaders Association of Miri here yesterday.

Ting, who is also chairman of SUPP Piasau, stressed that political stability, peace, and unity are vital elements for the country to continue progressing.

“There is no country in the world which is able to progress without peace, unity and political stability.”

Malay paramount leader Temenggong Abdul Rahman Fadzail too expressed his disappointment over the provocative post. He said he believed the intention of the individuals behind it was to jeopardise the existing good relations between the people of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia. “I would think it is also aimed at the leaders to see how far these leaders will react to such a provocation.”
