EC, MCMC To Track Alternative Media Campaigners After Midnight On Eve Of Polling Day

KUANTAN, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission will work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to track down parties who continue campaigning via alternative media after midnight on the eve of polling day.
 
EC deputy-secretary Datuk Noordin Che Ngah, said candidates and their agents were prohibited from campaigning beyond the permitted timeframe provided under the Election Offences Act.
 
Saying the EC had no authority and expertise to monitor alternative media such as blogs, Facebook and Twitter, he said this is where the MCMC came in.
 
"We will seek the assistance of the MCMC on the matter," he said during a briefing with representatives of political parties and the media, here day.
 
Noordin also advised all political parties to refrain from using defamatory campaign material or risk facing action.
 
Meanwhile, EC personnel demonstrated the voting process which was witnessed by about 100 representatives from political parties and the media.
 
The demonstration was however interrupted several times by representatives from the opposition parties who kept questioning the procedures, including the use of pencil to tick voters' names.
