MCMC among 66 booths at Sarawak ICT Expo ‘14

MIRI: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will be joining Sarawak ICT Expo 2014, in part to promote its mission to the people in the city.
 

The three-day event organised jointly by Computer Sales and Services Association (CSSA), Sarawak Miri branch and Miri City
Council (MCC) will be held from Oct 3 to 5 at Miri Indoor Stadium here.


“They (MCMC) will be here to promote and create awareness to the people here on the roles and function of the commission which many might still not be aware of,” said event organising chairman Janson Yong in a press conference.

The commission will collect SIM-based gadgets from the public to be exchanged with cash vouchers.


“Members of the public are encouraged to bring along SIM-based products or old handphone to the expo to be exchange with cash voucher of RM25 that can be used at the event. The cash voucher is limited to 150 copies only,” said Janson.

The voucher exchange programme is also to create awareness among the public over indiscriminate disposal of gadgets in the environment.


The opening hours will be from 11am to 9pm daily for the three days.

“A total of 66 booths will be set up and some famous ICT brand names such as Asus, Toshiba, HP, Acer, Samsung, Canon and Xerox will be showcasing their latest products and technology. Telekom Malaysia will also be taking part and showcasing latest broadband and telecommunication products and services,” said Janson.


Miri Hand Phone Association is also joining the expo and showcasing latest communication products and technology where special call and data packages will be offered to the public.


This year will see the participation of financial institutions and household appliances companies which will showcase financial services and latest household electrical appliances.


“In appreciation of strong support given by the Miri public to our yearly expo, we would like to reward them with a record-breaking five types of rewards and lucky draws. The terms and conditions to qualify for the rewards and draws will be revealed when the expo draws nearer,” he added.


Last year, the expo recorded around 40,000 visitors with an estimated RM1 million in turnover.
