Smartphone rebate application system running smoothly

07 Jan 2013, The Sun Daily

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 7, 2013): The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today gave the assurance that the online application registration system for the RM200 rebate on smartphone purchase for youths has been running smooth without any glitch.

The MCMC Corporate Communications Department's strategic adviser, Sheikh Raffie Abd Rahman said the website was not having any problems and could be accessed at a satisfactory speed at all times since last Friday.

"In fact, the website speed today is better than previously...our system is able to handle all the online applications received," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Sheikh Raffie said the website could not be having problems because since last night until this morning, 12,000 new applications were successfully registered.

For the record, 49,000 registered rebate applications were approved by MCMC until 11.30am today. The online registration is open to youths since Jan 1.

On claims by some applicants that it was difficult for them to register on the website, he said this could probably be due to errors made by them when using the system, for instance, when pressing the keyboard. He advised them to be more careful when registering their application.

Meanwhile, a cashier with a petrol station, Muhammad Firdaus Ali, 25, said he was unable to register his application yesterday but was informed by a friend that the website could be easily accessed today.

"I will try to register again after I return home from work so that my friends and I can together go and buy the smartphones that we have been dreaming to own at a cheaper price (with the rebate," he said.

Kolej Yayasan Melaka student, Syameer Kamal, 22, said he managed to access the website but was unsuccessful at the last step to register.

"I have been trying since 11.15am but until now when I click to register, my application cannot be processed.

"I am rather disappointed as I thought I would be successful at the first attempt. I will have to try again," he said and urged MCMC to further improve the system to facilitate registration.
