SMS Donations To Sabah Earthquake Victims Exceeds RM150,000 In Four Days
12 Jun 2015, bernama
CYBERJAYA, June 12 (Bernama) -- More than RM150,000 has been donated via SMS to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Humanitarian Fund (TKKMM) to help the victims of Sabah earthquake since it was launched on Monday, 8
th
June 2015.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Chairman, Dato’ Sri Dr. Halim Shafie said, the success in collecting more than RM150,000 worth of donation within a short period of time is testament of the caring and generosity attitude of our fellow Malaysians in helping those in need.
He said, the contributions will not only ease the burden and suffering faced by the earthquake victims and their family members but also assist the mountain guides who were also affected by the disaster.
“The job of a mountain guide is indeed challenging and requires adequate insurance coverage in the event of a disaster or unexpected incidences. Hence, it is possible that part of the contributions may be used for this purpose, as suggested by Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek recently,” Dr. Halim added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Halim also reminded that the way to donate to the fund is very simple. Those who intend to contribute can do so by typing GEMPA <space> <the amount to be donated, without needing to type ‘RM’> e.g. 1/3/5/10/15/20/30/40/50> and send it to 13999 from their respective handphones.
The humanitarian fund which is managed by The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM), MCMC together with the telcos continues until 7
th
July 2015.
